A few years ago I tried making transparent wood and it kind of worked. The pieces that I made were somewhat okay, but I was never really happy with the result.
I finally decided to try it again though!

  • I am not usually one to watch this sort of thing. I usually watch engineering kind of science videos like aerospace, (SpaceX Nut here), but as soon as you tried the first small 1.5mm piece against the page my eyes just lit up and my smile widened. I may never become a scientist I still love science and what you can do with it. This was amazing to watch you trouble shoot and problem solve.

  • Words have meanings... Transparent: Capable of transmitting light so that objects or images can be seen as if there were no intervening material. Translucent: Transmitting light but causing sufficient diffusion to prevent perception of distinct images.

  • I think removing the spacers would fix the problem with the methacrylate not covering the top part, just use small enough pieces of glass so it won’t tip over and tape it down.

  • How about using a glass bowl in the oven? that way the excess polymer will not just run out to the sides. Kinda like molding it, so that excess polymer can only leave the mold at an overflow, where you can just cut it off

  • Hey dude. I just found your channel. Your absolutely awesome and it’s a fun learning process. I noticed in your safety vid on NileBlue that you use safety glasses over your prescription ones. As an alternative you are able to get prescription safety glasses although it might just be a Canada thing. I’d love to hear your thoughts though. Great job on the wood too. I want a wood window now 😂

  • In comparison to the older transparent wood video, the acrylic method is clearly superior. But I was asking myself, what difference will be there if you, like in the older epoxy video, just test the results of wood cut with and cut against the grain. In my memory the ones cut against the grain where more transparent than the ones cut with the grain. Although this would heavily impact the stability of the pretreated product the final result should be much more transparent and the stability issue should be solved with the acrylic treatment. But I guess the "more transparent acrylic" method only fits for smaller pieces of windows, as the bigger the pieces are the more heavier they get and are more likely to fall apart or break upon lifting. Just some quick thoughts by me 😉 Nevertheless awesome video, keep up the good work and I hope everything goes well with your lab moving

    • As addition: maybe you could also try even thinner pieces of wood to further increase transparency of the "with grain cutted" wood

People say that it contains less caffeine than regular coffee but I don’t believe it. If you do the comparison, can you remove the caffeine from equal parts of the coffee’s. Thanks so much.
