DIY Crested & Gargoyle Gecko Bioactive Vivariums
For several years now, I've been lowkey talking about these vivariums. I never made any specifications, but I eluded to the fact that I was going house all of the geckos in a single location. It's been a slow process, but it's finally come to fruition.
Crested Geckos and Gargoyle Geckos are awesome animals that do great in live planted bioactive vivariums. If you choose a good selection of plants and provide enough space, they're very easy to keep. I didn't want to be too redundant, so I did all three of these in a single video. I have no intentions of bringing in any more New Caledonia geckos and my plan is to keep them in these vivariums for good.

This completes a small portion of my plan to optimize the animal room. More to come, but I'm really excited to have this portion done... and in case you didn't put two and two together, I now have two empty plywood tanks. What should I do with them? Also, which one of these vivariums is your favorite? I probably like Henry's the best (the one on the right).
I'd like to see a grass snake or poison dart frogs. Keep up the good work I like you're style.
@Irish Anonymous you can only house female Crested’s together. But most of the time it’s best to keep them separate to reduce stress. I don’t know a lot about the Gargoyle but they are also New Caledonian geckos, so probably the same thing. I would not house the two different species together though.
Love all ur videos, I'm a crested gecko breeder and I've decided do some new background builds, but I need help on deciding what use and what is safe! So I thought I'd ask you the Grand Master, and I was wondering is there any way I could ask u some questions, I'll pay u for your time!
I know this has nothing to do with the video but is there a place online to buy fire bellied toads you recommend?
you're an artist, tanner. wish i was a reptile :)
Tanner: *makes wonderful viv full of places to climb and explore* Gecko: *hangs on roof*
I painted a Hydraulic Concrete background with the Quickcrete pigments, but forgot to mix the pigments with Drylok. The pigment rubs off so much so that I have to redo it. This comment is just for anyone thinking about doing this. don’t forget the Drylok!!!😭
Very good! I'm always learning from your videos. But you have to start cutting down on plastic because of the planet. Best regards From Portugal
soo gorgeous
I love watching your videos, some of the names of the plants really make me smile. I swear you make some of the funnier ones up to see who's paying attention but you say them with such a straight voice its hard to tell :P
I don't make them up 😂
yay a return of the isopods my favorite and oooooo a new variety nice very nice your lil friends are so lucky to have you caring for them :@) Cynthia's room is my fave
are those isopods albino or just yellow you did not tell us the name of them this time PS i really liked the poster you once had up of them
Hey, I just went to see your channel on a friend's recommendation and I have to say that it's amazing ! I love how you craft the decor with foam. I have a simple question : Would these terrarium builds (at least the plants and decor, take some ideas) would suit a Gonyosoma Prasinus (tiny rat snake) please? Thank you. ♥
Pretty sweet project Tanner!
You are a true artist!
Looking forward to the build for the plywood tanks
Gorgeous scapes and I just LOVE those geckos!
Beautifully done!
From personal experience, my geckos do drink from water bowls. While they do like to sip water from the leaves the water might dry up by the time they wake up. I always leave a water bowl to give them the option to drink and maintain humidity. I have caught them drinking from their bowls before.
Great work
Any tips on heating mat (heat source) placement for this kind of build? Great Video!
Amazing video as usual!! Keep them coming!!
That was an oddly normal "hit that like button" this time around. I was expecting you to paste your face onto the gecko or something 😂😂
Love the scape I wish I was as good as you are
Really enjoyed this I enjoy terriums but nothing this big
Good
Check out" Goliad farms" fish breeders got hit bad by freeze in Texas some might find it interesting as they work as natural as possible
I'd love to see how you would house a leopard gecko - mine is 17 now and I'd like her to have a better viv
This is a beautiful and inspiring video, wonderful job
Why not put them together in one big enclosure?
very neat
Comment just to add viewer interaction Good luck brother love your contract
I would want to live in there if I was a lizard. Good work!
Absolutely beautiful slices of nature and beautiful animals am so jealous 😢 as wish I had the space etc
9:18 its ya boi
How do you maintain the plants in these vivariums. Ive watch a bunch of your vivarium builds but i still havent seen or caught on to how you keep the plants in such good shape. Ive since built my own ispired by yours and my plants arent doing too well and i cant seem to get a good humidity range and soil moisture balance. Anything helps. Id be more than happy to elaborate on my build if you reply to this message. I have yet to put my crestie in but its coming close to when i planned on doing so.
What kind of paint do you use? And did you use a sealant on it?
Hello, I started doing this due to your videos and its amazing. Anyways, what if I were to over water and then want to suspend a dehumidifier pack (food safe) into the air space of my closed-bottle terrarium with just plants and a couple isopods? This would pull the humidity out obviously, but I wonder if it would be worthwhile for quick dehumidifying. This is just some stupid idea I have. I realize opening the container and letting it vape off is the way but what about this crazy way I thought of? I want to try it out and I may end up doing so. What are your thoughts on this? Crazy and not worth the time? That is my guess but hey, who knows. Thanks man and I apologize as I don't know where to ask you things and I'm sure you get enough of that. Hope all is well and that you and yours are safe! I'm thinking of this scenario for mold issues where you could dry out the bottle really fast. Totally could be useless as well.
Have you ever considered a terrarium with a mammal inside of it?
Those are amazing enclosures! I would like to make a naturalistic setup for my crested gecko, but I fear for problems. For example, how do you prevent warping of the wood due to moisture? Also, how much ventilation do you allow and is mould ever a problem?
I am so happy to have found your channel. Your videos are educational as well as relaxing. Your work is amazing and everything looks extremely professional. Phenomenal work.
Out of all th geckos I've ever bred. Crested are by far my favorite. They're the most chill geckos.
Wow amazing video! I really want to make my own DIY vivariums sometime in the future! 🔥 watching your videos inspires me. My favorite tank has to be the one with the flower, something about the red in there makes it stand out more 🔥
Awesome video man!
your builds is always so detailed love that, plus theres crested gecko! will there be arid bioactive vivariums setups any time soon? kinda need reference for bioactive bearded dragons setups
the ending was so pleasing, loved the vibe
Please please please make a video on how you made the actual enclosures!
Absolutely love the background on these!! So doable for me! The silicone/coco fibre looked really messy and involved, carving ALL of the dried expanding foam for the silicon to stick etc, your enclosures are stunning, as usual Tanner, lucky lucky geckos, I’m learning everything I can from you about vivarium builds before I make my own and go pick my new gecko up from the breeder
What do you use to spray your tanks?
Juz made our first one but we only had cheese cloth will that still work?
These look so good wish i was that handy
I recently watched your “dinosaur plant” video and you should do a tank or paludarium build based around “old life forms” like bichirs or maybe Triops or something, it’d be very cool to see what you come up with.
Do you make custom tanks for people to buy?
what do you use for leopard gecko's as substrate? im living in the netherlands , and basically every petstore/reptile store tells me , i cant use sand , as long as your leo gecko is healty i know that isnt true , and that i can harm your gecko in the long/short term.. could any of you help me out ?
Do you sell merch? i think this has mentioned in past couple months but didnt really launch
👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
Love geckos, these were all stunning
awww i love crested geckos! i wish i could have them here in Australia T___T
Sir I like your channel and I love plants moss but I live in Pakistan dry area there moss can't servive sir what I will do
Yo tanner, I think your company is headed places- in a big way! I’m confident Serpa design is on its’ way to being a household name as the reptile industry grows. Keep up the legendary work, brotha! You’re work has inspired thousands🤙🏻🤙🏻
How often does one mist these tanks? I would think frequently due to the geckos drinking from their leaves.
i would think twice a day
Where's the Moss? You are ruining your given name of Bob Moss.
Beautiful, I'm in the midst of a trio of exo terras for small day geckos and have taken inspiration from you and these videos!
Always amazing inspiration for everything we do both in and off of our channel. Well done.
Always inspiring! Thanks tanner.
Wow amazing u inspire me !! I love ur work , u r so gifted God bless u❤
Amazing build as always. I love seeing your diverse plant selection.
Awesome. Just love all the bio active enclosures. Just would like to know how to keep all the plants inside pest free
Do you watch any Table Top Terrain Videos?
Amazing build and awesome geckos!😀
Don’t mind me. Just making another comment so that Tanner can have more money to make his amazing videos 😊.
Do you think this drylock coating technique would be suitably watertight for a paludarium set up with a water feature/partial pond cover? Would make a really simple solution for separating land areas for semi aquatic amphibs or maybe even turtles.
It's like pet store displays.....but 1,000,000x better
I can’t express enough how relaxing and fun your videos are. It brings me back to how much I loved when the science teacher would wheel in the cart and we’d watch some kind of educational something or other, and how fun it was to learn about biology and the world. Just pure joy. Thanks, man.
Very cool build and creatures.
did not get noitfied that this video was up today.
Very cool how these came together!
These are so cool! I have to ask, though, is there a reason you put a flower in one of them and not in the other two? We need a room like this in our house 😂
love
Each enclosure is as beautiful and unique as their inhabitants
Always love your vids man! The creation process and love you put into them is amazing.
I didn't get this notification even though i have the bell rung tanner.
Did you say this was just xps foam and they look awesome
Wow they're so cute!! I would love to see how you create an environment for leopard geckos!
I love the Mood that you're giving to ur vids... it smell like honnesty and good feelings
How do you manage to keep asplenium or any other ferns in terarriums? I added mine to the cold side aproximately 15cm away from my heat source (max 25°C; ~50-60%), mist it every day and yet is still burned and dying :(
Dang man. They cute af.
Would really love an update on the 300gal
Mysterious ticking noise
Your absolutely incredible and i admire u so much. You have taught me alot thru the years thank you
Great scapes!
This was a cool video!
Create
I love how balance beauty with the needs of your animals, you always think of their needs first and manage to make something so beautiful that is pleasing and functional for both you and them. ❤️ Thank you!
Long term, when these plants roots get "root bound" in the vivarium what do you do?
Awesome video and wonderful work, but I have a question. Do you use anything for heating for the geckos?
Simply amazing
awesome job once again
786K subscribers, can't wait to see you hit a million Tanner!
These look great
It would incredibly helpful if you start putting the products youre using in the descriptions of your videos. Other channels that do this have an elevated interactivity experience
Done.
I tuoi video sono di grande ispirazione per me. Ciao dall'Italia 😄
Love the geckos and hope they enjoy their new homes 😊
They have taken very well so far. Virtually no acclimation issues from what I've seen.
Amazing! You should consider Phelsumas day geckos Tanner, they display stunning colours and are relatively easy to breed.
