Former CIA contractor turned whistleblower Edward Snowden shocked the world when he revealed the misdeeds of the US intelligence community and its allies. Now living in Russia, he is a noted privacy advocate and author who serves as president of the Freedom of the Press Foundation. His book, Permanent Record, is now available in paperback from Henry Holt and Company.

  • " What is the begining then of then of the change from president into a tyrant? When he does the same thing in the fable about the wolf of Arcadia, it follows as such, that whoever tasted human entrails which were mixed with those of other sacrifices, necessarily became of wolf. - And must not he in the same manner, who being president of the people, and receiving an extremely submissive multitude, abstains not from Kindred blood, but unjustly accusing them and bring them into courts of Justice, stains himself of Bloodshed, taking away the life of a man, and, with unhallowed tongue and mouth, tasting Kindred blood, and besides this, banishes and Slays, and proposes the abolition of debts, and division of lands, - must not such an one, of necessity, and as it is destined, be either destroyed by his enemies, or exercise tyranny, and from being a man, become a wolf. "

  • No joke guys we could solve just about every problem mentioned in this video and in most of the world by having a wise and intelligent person interpret what was written by Plato, specifically the Republic. The harvard translation is horrible which says alot about our current situation. Anyone who says we already do it now or used it as a model for our society has no clue what they are talking about, we are about as far off as we could be.

  • Absolutely this man is a patriot!! I agree with Joe, he’s a Hero. Heroes are extraordinary individuals who choose to take a stand for the greater good of the American people, when he could have kept silent like thousands of others who have been involved in the government. I appreciate his sacrifice for our betterment. Thank you 🙏.

  • weird case where what he did was illegal at the time yet now the court says the policy was wrong so it looks like he was fighting something illegal. Idk, I'm generally a work-within-the-system guy so I wonder if he could have gotten change within the system rather than stealing classified documents and revealing classified info? like he could have gone to his superiors and said "I have real qualms about this program," and seen what they said. He could have gone to politicians and said "I have real qualms about this program," and seen what they said. If the initial people he goes to don't help him, he can go higher. Wonder what his position at the time he broke the law was on whether the surveillance would actually save lives. He says now we know it hasn't, but did he think about that at the time he committed the crimes? The government could have been right and it saved lives, and then what he did would have been harmful? I think it's possible the gov't really thought it would save lives. If Snowden couldn't prove it wouldn't, I suppose what he did *_was_* a crime? Common-sense-wise, I would have thought it would save lives. Surprised to hear it hasn't. ironic that he's living in Russia where I would guess people have less freedom than America? Watch out, Russian gov't Eventually this phone surveillance would have come out, if Snowden hadn't done it someone else would have, it's too big a secret to keep. It was unrealistic to think it could be kept

  • One of the issues that I think is not well understood in regards to "de-platforming", Is that these platforms we have become so reliant on in our modern age, are Corporate Platforms. They are not the traditional Public Platforms which we expect our elected officials to respect and protect. A corporation has no obligation to protect our right to free speech. They are profit generating entities which can and will do whatever they need to do to protect their bottom line. The only way to protect freedom of speech in such an environment is for governments to start to lay down legislation which essentially mandates how these companies are allowed to be run, and this is a massively slippery slope. It is also one which most of the western governments and societies are extremely hesitant to adopt as it is in contradiction of many of the core tenants of the capitalist/free-market doctrine. Now I am not attributing any moral aspect to the comments above. I am simply stating that this is the reality of these technologically driven platforms which we have become reliant on for much of our social discourse, within the framework of the western society in which they exist.

I'm not claiming he definitely is, you could make the argument that he merely looks down a lot when speaking, perhaps a tell to some measure of insecurity or something, & I'd not be able to refute that, but.......I've seen people looking down as they speak and their eyes sort of gloss over as their focus takes a route internally. His eyes are often focused here. He doesnt appear thoughtful. He looks like someone reading off of something.
